1962 Impala with 409 vs without

I was going to ask if the build sheet showed which engine came in the car ( It's been a long time since I looked at a build sheet). The car still has a back seat in it, I will pull it to see if the sheet is still there. Thanks for all the info shared over the last week!

1962 Impala with 409 vs without

Actually, what I am asking is a 409 body and frame worth any more than a standard Impala (body and frame) if I am purchasing the car with no motor? I have 3 409 motors that I could drop into the car after being restored: true it is not an original engine and numbers matching car. Or are the...

1962 Impala with 409 vs without

So what are the differences? 425/409ER mentioned the return fuel line as one way to tell it was a 409. I was told screw holes on the steering column as one, but I didn't put much faith in that comment as I would think a 327, 4-speed could be ordered with a tach. This car has original patina...

1962 Impala with 409 vs without

I'm curious as to whether there is a price difference between a 1962 Impala (non-SS) body and frame that originally came with a 409 vice one that came with a 327 or 283? The car currently does not have it's original engine or tranny. I have a 409 to drop into it should I purchase it. I know...

    1964 motor on Facebook

If I remember, it was a 65 340 hp engine with 817 heads. I think is was $2200 for whole engine.

    1964 motor on Facebook

Not mine, but worth a look for someone searching for an engine or heads. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3875806332705574?rid=7685867108111624&ad_id&rt=1&refID=0&refType=0&referral_code=commerce_attachment

    Unusual W Head

I found a 348 or 409 head, casting number 3815857. Anyone know what engine this head went on??

    Exhaust valve clearance question

First off, you don't mention whether you are working on a 409 or a 348. A 348 is limited to .550 lift - I believe the limit is higher in a 409. Here is what MRHP is referring to about grinding the block to make room for the valve by inserting a cutter thru the valve guide on the head. I took...

    Distributor Lengths

Thanks Jim!! That's the discussion I was trying to find. It's getting so hard to find an original distributor at a reasonable price, I am starting to look for an aftermarket one. I will put my 348 in a 56 Chevy Handyman and need to be conscience of room against the firewall. I've bookmarked...

    Distributor Lengths

About 6 months ago, I found a thread showing different distributors and their associated lengths and heights on this site. I should have saved the thread, but didn't. When I did a search over the last couple of days, I could not locate the thread. Can someone assist me in finding the thread. It...

    Confusion on 3857656 Blocks

I've checked and the engine is a 348 (655 casting). Thanks for all the feedback and comments. I have 2 X 348 blocks now and am not really looking to get another. The only reason I would buy it is to scrounge parts.

    Confusion on 3857656 Blocks

As I look closer at the picture of the Cast Code, it may be a 3857655. Can someone update the list of cast codes on this site to include the 655 number?

    Confusion on 3857656 Blocks

Per this web site, I noticed that 348 truck blocks were made all the way until 1964 (based on the suffix codes starting with T, U or Y) . What casting codes were used on these later 348 blocks? Casting codes for 348 truck blocks were 3755011 and service replacement blocks from 58 - 61. Also...

    Headers

If you look around on Craigs list or Ebay, you might score a set of Edelbrock shorty headers for 348s/409s. I scored a set a couple of years back for $300, new in the box. Considering Edelbrock is known for performance, I figure these should be better than factory originals.
