Thanks all for the help and for sharing your stories. After 11 months of cleaning and painting the engine and engine compartment, replacing the engine wire harness, converting the Mallory ignition with conventional points ignition,, new carbs, she is running great! Thanks to all of on this form...

What I was missing was I had tge distributor out 180 deg:irk Lmao

I'd like 5 times LOL I keep going over the firing order like some how I think I am messing it up.:lmao

What am I missing? Distributor is positioned as the manual depicts, dwell is at 31.5 deg (cranking), timing is in the ball park 8 to 10 BDC while cranking yet I am firing back thru the intake and won't start.:help2

What is confusing me is with the Mallory distributor it was setuo up like figure 2. With conventional distributor the cap his the coil. Figure one would solve that issue.

Can any tell me which image is the correct distributor positioning for a 64 409 hp
