How did it run with the point set-up.Most HEI distributors dont need anything changed,except the ignition module in the back of it,below the cap.Alt of them are cheap,when the engine gets hot,they start to seperate and lose connection.Make sure on the bottom of the module has enough correct...

Anymore with todays upgrade parts,you can build anything you want.Always helps to have a tranny mechanic to keep the labor cost down.

Ive seen these trannies up to 300,000 miles on them without a rebuild.

Id still stay with the older ones.Over here you can have them rebuilt,upgraded for 1000 dollars.

If your running a edelbrock carb,replace with a quad.

Id run the 700r4 with coax cable,1982 to 1986,these newer ones upshift on there own,too early.

Check your timing,make sure you have a vaccum hose from the carb to the distributor,no suction on port on idle.Use ac delco plugs at factory gap,adjust your air fuel mixture.
