    Billet Aluminum Hood Hinges

I don't see it as a big seller. Too much $$$. From what I went through it seems like the 61 is unique. I thought I ran across new 62s from CARS...maybe? Can't recall and settled a on a good used set.

61 62 Chevy BelAir Impala Windshield Gutter Seal

I recently removed the channels from my 61 spt cpe (HT) and there was a sealant not a gasket. I plan on using 3m strip caulk. Whatever you use, seal the screws too. A dab of soft sealant should do, but avoid silicone. Some black butyl would do, tape or caulk.

New Wheels and Tires Time. NEED HELP!

I have stock Vette 8" ralley whls on the back of my 61. I forget the tire size but it looks nice and fat under there (255-60, maybe?) I'm in build mode and I'm just using em to roll it around on. My 1/4s were repaired before I got it. The wheel lips were rolled up and he didn't do too bad at it...

    X-pipe?

I'm planning a large diameter single exhaust. The main run to the back will be 3" into a crossflow muffler out back. I'll fabricate a 2 or 2 1/2 Y pipe at the motor that opens up to the main pipe diameter. I want the system similar to the late model F bodies. As far as muffler location, well, I...

honduras maroon...or something with more "pop"

Years ago I did a 66 Vette that was Honduras Maroon. The owner also wanted more from the color. There was a Mopar color from the late 80s, early 90s. "(something) Garnet Pearlcoat" was the name. I had re-sharpened all the body lines and we laid out a nice drop coat of color after sanding it...

    drop spindles, sway bars, gears...

Thanks for the input thus far, also the gear ratio link. I used it to find that a 3.36 (I think that was an OEM offering), a 28" tall tire and a .76 OD will net 2298 @ 75 MPH. Just where I want to be. My lil Olds daily runs right there give or take a hundred RPM and my ex 3 20 something geared...

    drop spindles, sway bars, gears...

Ok, I'm finally back working on my 61 Belair. While it's as far down as it is I'm going over some considerations. I used the search function and got the "phone book" with any of my terms in their text, so before investing work hrs in reading time I'll simply ask. Best sway bars? The hook up...

    Vintage Chrome Reversed

I measured everything on the car today. Yes the stock Vettes are 4" BS. The tires are 255/70R and measure 11X29. With the stock axle dead center there's 1 1/2" to the outside with a rolled 1/4 lip. I didn't get an inside measurement but there's plenty all around on mine with the ride hgt...

    Vintage Chrome Reversed

I'm rolling mine around on some ralley wheels. 15X7 in the front and 15X8 in the rear. I've not had the chance to drive it (a ways to go) but that 8" wheel clears everything. I must add that it looks like the lips of the 1/4s were rolled a little when installed (I'm making that area nicer right...

    markIV motors

Thanks for the pics and experiences. This would be an assembled BBC from a stock bore 454. I can source a crank and pistons easy, simple heads, prretty much a no-brainer, really. I have a lot of stuff to get started, have a running 350 ready to go, a 3X2 for that, a 54 3100 PU kustom project...

    markIV motors

Why the OMG? I see that this forum is dedicated to 58-65 chevs. There's a small block section. There's LT1 conversions. I have the pieces to assemble a 427 markIV and it might be kool. Nobody?

    markIV motors

Ok don't be haters, this one's about the car. I'm tinkerin the idea of a 427 markIV install in a 61 spt cpe. Any cars here with mark IVs in em? Any pics? thinking stock manifolds, nothing radical. Thanks in advance...

    Rear Axle Tag

3.36 would be better with OD. 3.08 may load the 1st 3 gears enough to make it a pig for city drive stop n go gigs. Also with a 3.36 a taller tire could be used in the future if desired with little adverse effect on mileage and driveability. 150 RPM more at your predicted 70mph target really...

    shortening rear axle

It sounds like the axles are a bit larger in diameter after the splines, correct? You'd be ahead of the game to send em to Moser, or an equivalent service, and have em re-splined. At that point you're surely in the clear and perhaps way less than a machine shop setting up to do something...

    shortening rear axle

Easy to figure out. Look at the splines. There'll be a lil bit of wear or "bright" splines on the end of the axle. You need the cut length of splines "behind" where it's been engaged. Make sense? You also want an extra 1/8 maybe for side loads. So it's like this. 2 1/2" of sline existing on the...
