    Oil leak rebuilt 348

Checking back in gents, The Impala finally made its way to the lift and its the pan gasket/pan. The engine is coming out Wednesday and my thought is to replace not only the gasket but also the pan. It should have been done with the rebuilt and was not. Anyone have a good source for acquiring a...

    Oil leak rebuilt 348

Thanks again guys, the speed shop has a line of cars in front of me so it will take a bit of time to get my beast up on the lift and take a hard look. Upholstery took for ever so I lost my place in the cue for service on the engine. Does anyone know of a 1958 Impala owner in need of a front...

    Oil leak rebuilt 348

Road draft tube. I will have my guy take a look when it’s my turn on his lift. His speed shop is high demand so it will probably be a couple of weeks since he is a one man show. Thanks! Jim

    Oil leak rebuilt 348

Thanks Gents! the oil on the floor is about the size (Footprint) of a loaf of bread or if you will significant. I’m in line to get the vehicle up on my mechanics lift and will advise. He is telling me that the 348 is problematic with oil leaks reference the rear seal. The rebuild to include...

    Oil leak rebuilt 348

Hi guys, Had a 1958 engine rebuilt by a machine shop in CA. that has a great reputation. The 348 runs like a top but is leaking oil on the garage floor. My mechanic has not had it up on the lift yet and I have tightened the oil pan and valve cover gaskets. I’m unable to find the source of the...

Tom, I got word last night that the engine has forged pistons but no further word on the condition of the block. I’m on the road for 12 days starting tomorrow and need some info from you if you have the time today. Could you please take a look and see what you have in regard to replacing my 379...

    348 rebuild

Tom and Don, Thanks for your suggestions. The machine shop where the block is located is swamped and behind because their washer was/is down. No words yet on the block. So far the damage is a cracked head and a cracked exhaust manifold. I’m hoping the block isn’t also cracked. Thanks Jim

    348 rebuild

Hi Don, If the engine can be rebuilt I’m good with stock or a mild upgrade. Cost may give me pause and direction however. I hope by weeks end I will have some news on the block. The 58 Impala that I’m restoring is a restomod by the way. 6 speed, center console, bucket seats and Vintage air...

    348 rebuild

Yes the heads are 379s. If my mechanic green lights the bottom end of the block I will be looking for a replacement head. I’m not concerned with dates. Thanks Jim

    348 rebuild

The engine is not completely torn down yet but I am in need of at least one head. Shop found that one is cracked. Any suggestions at this point are appreciated? Will know soon if the block is a “keeper” and what direction we are going. Many thanks Jim

    348 rebuild

Hi gents, Looking for some info on a possible 348 rebuild. Engine is out of car after showing 145-150 psi on compression check with one cylinder showing 130. Engine is headed to very well respected shop that will give me the news next week. I appreciate every situation is different but a couple...
