    327 engine

I had everything balanced. It's held up so far.

    327 engine

I like your other idea, and wound up doing much the same thing. When replacing the 230 in my '64, I rebuilt a large journal 327 I had lying around to make good power on a reasonable budget. The car sounds and runs great, will pass most anything but a gas station, and is fun to drive. Someone...

    1960 Impala Suspension Upgrade

My '64 came with no sway bar, and was the worst handling car I'd ever driven. It felt like it would roll over on its side just turning out of a driveway, and required both hands and concentrated effort to keep it in a fairly straight line on the freeway, which was far from relaxing or...

Fitting to run mechanical temperature gauge and dash light

I've used a tee with a heater hose fitting when no extra tapped holes were available. I didn't want to lose the dash lights, either.

    AT diagram

A friend sent this to me yesterday. I'm sure it's neither new nor original, but plenty accurate and it made me smile.

Shorty block hugger headers vs ram's horns for performance.

Here's what I'm planning to use for the alternator. I haven't tried it on the car yet, but it looks like it'll work.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

It won't clear the filter, either. I'd like to find a 265 owner who would be happy to have it.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

I won't find out until I find someone who wants it! I've spent more time being annoyed that this pan didn't fit, cleaning tacky RTV off the bottom of the block, and trying to find a replacement than I've spent evaluating its value.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

Here's the difference in the pans. The upside, aside from having learned something, is that I now have a 1955 oil pan for sale.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

Thanks, Bob. That step is what concerns me, and part of why I initially chose the top one.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

Before a couple of days ago I thought they were all the same, too. The 1955 pan does not taper to clear the oil filter, but has a LH rail symmetrical to the right side. I'll post a photo later.

    1964 Belair 327 oil pan

I'm in the process of replacing the 230 with a 327, and grabbed the best pan I could find out of the corner of the shed. Turns out it's a 1955 265 pan (top in photo) and will not bolt up. The bottom pan has been patched and I'd rather not use it. My question is, will the unpainted one in the...

    Rear sway bars

I have Hellwig bars front and rear, and they've helped immensely. Last summer, the electronic stability control light was flashing in my son's late model sedan as he was trying to keep up with me on a curvy road. The rear bar is of the same basic design as I had on a Chevelle years ago, and it...

    15" tire/steel wheel combo on a 1963 Impala question

I have P235/70R15 tires on 15 x 7 steel rims with 4.25" backspacing, and have no clearance issues front or rear. They would not clear the tie rods if the backspacing were any greater.
