    Transmission choice.

Depends on how you are going to use the car. If it is primarily a drag racing car, I'd probably go with a built Powerglide. If it's an around town street car that gets regularly abused, I'd go with the Turbo 350/4 speed/Turbo 400. If I were planning on much highway driving a Turbo 350 would...

    3789812 P carrier ?

This won't get set up with a spacer. Either a thick ring gear or a 4 series posi unit. And I knew that some cases needed clearancing. Just didn't know if it was a difference in open and posi cases or a difference in 3 and 4 series cases. Not my first rodeo setting up rear ends. Just looking for...

    3789812 P carrier ?

I've set rearends up with a spacer and with thicker ring gear. And yes there are less parts to come loose with the thicker gear than with the spacer. From what I've read, I'm thinking a posi case will take either the 3 series or 4 series posi. Is that right?

    3789812 P carrier ?

I've got a customer that brought me a 3789812 P center section that he wants me to put 4.11 in for his 63 409 car. It has the right date code for his car, but on the other side of the case there is an AM 2 20 stamped in the case. Does that code the original gear ratio?

    Idler pulley brackets, PS brackets???

Thanks guys, I guess I'll order the pump and see how it works with the brackets that are on the engine now.

    Idler pulley brackets, PS brackets???

I should do some more checking, but I guess I'm kinda lazy today. Do the hipo idler pullies and power steering pumps use the same brackets? I've got it in the back of my head they do. We're thinking about putting power steering on a 63. Anyone have any opinions on the Global West power steering...

    dual edelbrock carb conversion?

The 500 and 600 cfm Edelbrocks actually use the same carb body. The difference in the cfm is in the primary boosters. You can change the cfm by changing the boosters (and jetting). Just another tuning aid. I used some 500's on a 409 and a couple of 600's on a 454. Both worked well enough out of...

    Fouled Plugs

I'm pretty sure Holley says power valve should be half your vacuum reading at idle. in other words 13" of vacuum would use a 6.5 power valve. With 10" vacuum, I'd use a 4.5 power valve. To lower the float level, back off the lock screw and turn the nut (5/8" wrench) clockwise. It would be best...

    Will 409 dual 4's fit 348 heads (low-perf)??

There's enough meat in the standard heads to "sorta" port match them to the QB intake. Here's a junk head I played with to see if it would work. I did do a set of 333s and put the OEM intake on it. But since Edelbrock is making a 2X4 intake for the standard heads now, I don't think I'd ever do...

    Gasket sealant

Before you throw all the RTV stuff in the trash, try the Permatex Ultra. I use the black, but they make a couple of different types. It is the only RTV silicone I'll use in my shop-good stuff.

    Gasket sealant

Nuther vote for Permatex Ultra Black. It's been a long time since I've used the end seals on any intake.

    3 x 2 carb questions

I've used Standard Hygrade kits for 30 years without a quality problem. I think I'll blame the problem on ethanol. I guess it works ok on fuel injected cars, but it sure gives me headaches on anything with a carb on it. I'm fighting a 54 Corvette with 3 sidedraft Carters right now. Ethanol has...
