Removing bell housing with engine in car

I did put the throw out bearing in wrong. Had to go back in and make sure this time it was behind the little ears. That took up some of the slop in the pedal but not all. I put in a new clutch fork from Show Cars. Show cars said no one makes originals any longer and that they get forks in...

What clutch did my 64 Impala 340 hp come with?

i am replacing my clutch parts. I have it apart. It has an 11" clutch in it. When I went to NAPA and asked for the replacement parts for my car, they brought out a 10.5" clutch. Curious if my car could have come new with 11" clutch? Anyone know? Thanks

Removing bell housing with engine in car

Thank you both for the replies. I like the tips. The reason I want to remove bell housing is to check condition of clutch. I don't think the problem is there but while I'm at it, I just thought I go ahead and remove and check it. after the car reaches operating temp, if I need to clutch it...

Removing bell housing with engine in car

I think I have a bad throw out bearing. I have the car up on the lift. I have detached everything to allow me to remove tranny. I suddenly thought, "maybe one cannot remove bell housing without removing engine!". So, can one remove bell housing without removing engine? If so, does the...

Appropriate rear gear ratio for my set up?

Thanks for all the input. Since I had found a brand new in the box Auburn posi unit for $123.00, I thought I might just change the gearing while we were in there working. The cam sucks. Sounds good. But is an awful cam. I know that. I might go back to my stock one someday.

Appropriate rear gear ratio for my set up?

I'm changing rear gears. Just needed opinion based on what my current setup is. I usually get pretty good feedback here that's all.

Appropriate rear gear ratio for my set up?

I have a 64 Impala SS with QC block 340 hp 409 with a Comp Thumper cam. I have open 10 bolt diff with 3:36 gear and Muncie M21. I am running 27" tires out back. The 3:36 is going to be changed as it takes too much effort to go from dead stop. I have an Auburn posi unit ready to go in. I...

Which front coil spring to lift my 64 Impala 409 1 to 2 inches?

Thanks Don. I ordered and installed "Heavy Duty" springs from Show Cars Inc. I got maybe 1/4" lift. I have been running the car that way for awhile but it's too low. I talked to Show Car today and they have a "Super Heavy Duty" that they claim will give me another inch, maybe two. Not in...

Which front coil spring to lift my 64 Impala 409 1 to 2 inches?

I installed 2" drop spindles. Car looks fine but is tooo low. I want to raise it at least an inch or morewith coil springs. The suppliers won't tell me how much lift I will get from a given coil. Anyone out there used a spring that gave the 1 to 2 inch lift? Thanks Mike

Head port for electric fan temp sensor

That,s an idea. Is there a port or block drain that I could put the sensor in and get the fans to come on quicker?

Head port for electric fan temp sensor

Is there a port on one of the heads that the temp sensor, that controls the activation of my cooling fans, can be screwed into? I installed the sensor in the top heater hose. Set them to come on at like 165. Fans don't come on until like 190. Guess that is the wrong place for the...

64 dash tach light is dim

Merl, like the grounding solution a lot. I put a bigger bulb in and that helped.....some. I am clueless electronically. Are you saying a dedicated ground to the tach? Or, somehow providing additional ground to all dash lights via one ground wire?
