Years ago, I believe it was Eckler's LGC, sold a Freeze-Plug with a fitting to install a second Temp. connection.

I've used a tee with a heater hose fitting when no extra tapped holes were available. I didn't want to lose the dash lights, either.

The 881 location you mention is all there is to my knowledge. Gm used some thermostat housings with some npt openings for ported vacuum...
