early 348's a easy way just by looking at the blocks/heads is the first gen headsthe set where the plugs screw into are thin about 3/8 inch and should take the 3/8 reach spark plugs. the 2nd gen have a thicker boss hence tha water jacket there about 3/4 to 1 inch thick
