    6x2 offy on a 409

I have the same block, heads and manifold with 6 Demon 98's and it runs well in a 2000 lb. T-bucket. The Demon carbs are larger than most 2 barrels, so to get everything to fit I had to make all the linkage myself, but other than that it was easy.

I know why they call it a mouse

If you believe that an average horse can produce 1 horsepower, and that an average horse weighs 1100 lbs., and that an average mouse weighs 22.5 grams, and given that 1 lb. = 454 grams, then is stands to reason that (1100 lbs) X (454 grams) / 22.5 grams per mouse = 22,195 mice would make the...

    Oil Pan Question

I'm ready to put my pan back on after trying to chase down an oil leak, and I noticed that the two little rubber tabs under the rear main cap stick out about 3/16" or so after the cap is put in place. Should these be trimmed so they don't interfere with the pan gaskets or perhaps the gaskets...

Car Guys with Young Kids, Tech Question

A couple of weeks ago I saw an ad on TV that was hawking car seats for parents to buy for children who were old enough to have outgrown the conventional ones. It was supposedly a new item, and I believed intended to fill the need here. Sorry I didn't pay more attention, my youngest is 24...

    Timing

It's a 2400 rpm stall converter, but in such a light car it acts like it is a lot lower. I have to really stand on the brakes at a red light to keep from rolling. Later in the summer I am going to switch to a higher stall, probably 2800. It can be a handful. I have no idea what it would do...

    Timing

Thank you all, let me go one step further. I have a .060 over 409 running 10:1 Ross pistons with 6 Demon 98 two barrels on an Offenhauser manifold. The distributor is a MSD all mechanical, no vacuum advance, 6 AL ignition with no rev limiter, . The cam is 224 deg. @ .050 lift both intake and...

    Timing

I was reading through old threads trying to get some information about ignition timing for my 40, and I came across this from petepedlar back in Sept. of last year - "The timing was all in at 2500 with a ready to run MSD. One blue spring, one silver spring and the blue stopper. We broke in the...

    Headers

Does anyone know who, besides Sanderson, might make 409 headers for an open frame such as a T-bucket? Jeff

    Bolt hole question

It is a 422 passenger car block and 817 heads. The block had to be bored 60 over to clean up the cylinders. I used the stock crank with BBC rods and Ross 10:1 pistons. Cam is an Isky hydraulic flat tappet. If I remember correctly it is .520 lift and 224 duration at .050 lift, both intake and...

    Bolt hole question

Now that I have introduced myself, I have a question. On the drivers side of my 422 block right above the oil filter is the hole that I believe is usually used for the oil pressure sender. Going forward 4 inches from that hole, and up one inch is another threaded hole (just above a freeze...

    New 409 owner

First off I would like to thank everyone who provides the wealth of information that is posted here. I bought a torn down 409 a year ago, had to have it bored 60 over to clean up the holes, and then started putting it together by searching through all the past threads here for guidance. The...
