OMG Dan. I've never seen the wheel/shaft come back like that, but haven't looked at many photos of wrecked interiors either. I was thinking it was going to be the whole column dash pushed back to the driver's chest area the car. That pic with the wheel and shaft where your head would be scared the crap outta me. That is terrible. WOW. Poor soul.

If we scratch build or do a major change to an old car over here a colapsable column is mandatory.
each time i do a build like that i use a mid eighties gm steering column like a camaro or firebird etc. Easy to fit and has the nylon pin slip joint system. Works well.

I am going to add universal joints to my shaft. That way it will keep my chest from getting crushed plus I can move it over and have more room to maker a nicer transition for the header. I was thinking about before but after seeing the pictures I consider it mandatory before the car hits the track again.
