Travis FowlerAbout 10 years ago there was a Z-11 427 in Sacramento that was in a 32 Ford hot rod. Some guy bought it and it was in the back of a truck and it was heading to St Louis or Kansas City. Wonder if it's the same one with the old man listed above. They said they paid $25,000 for it.

This was posted on the Facebook site. I just started laughing!!!! That was me!! Had a friend from CA call and said a guy called him and wanted to sell his Z-11 to him. He didn't want it so he called me. I called the guy and he gave me his description. This was late on a Friday afternoon. I told him that I had a friend that lived about 50 miles away and wanted to see if he could come over and look at it for me. "Sure". So contacted my friend and set up a Sat. AM meeting. Called the owner back and said my friend would be coming over on Sat. and if everything looked OK, I'd take it but..............I couldn't get him the money until Monday morning. He said that's OK...if you want it I'll just let your friend take it back with him!!!! So.....bought the engine and my friend put it in the back of his pickup. And....he had a swap meet he wanted to go to on his way home so off he went. Parked in the parking lot at the swap meet and went lookin' for parts. When he got back to the pickup he said there were a bunch of guys standing around his pickup wanting to know what he wanted for it!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway.....when we were talking about the engine later in the day...he asked me "did he tell you about the transmission?" I said "NO....what transmission?" It had a B&M Hydrostick bolted to the back of the engine!!!!! He put everything on a pallet and shipped it to me. It was everything the owner told me it was.
Now...to set the record straight...Mr Fowler has some facts wrong. The engine came out of a 38 or 39 Plymouth!!!! I still have a picture of the car if I could only find it!! And it was not a "Z-11".............it was a 425HP shortblock with the Z-11 top half. And his price was not right either. And even with my bad memory...I'm thinking it is closer to 12-15 years ago that this all transpired.

Short trip down memory lane............................

When I read that post I knew he had to be talking about you Phil. I think we all knew it. Can you imagine leaving a 409 (much less one with Z11 heads/intake) in the back of your truck while you walk around a swap meet in this day & age?? You'd be lucky if your truck was still in the parking lot let alone the engine.

It's a small world aint it. :dunno
It makes you wonder if the owner of the engine ever looks in on this site, or if he could even be a member. :rub
