Metalworking project: An aluminum bottle of beer keychain

Just playing with the lathe today. I found this really cool plastic beer bottle key chain/bottle opener in a junk car a while back and thought it would be neat to make one out of aluminum. It's 2-5/8" tall and 3/4" in diameter.

I haven't put the bottle opener part on yet, I'm working on a test piece to see if I can pull that off first. It's cool like it is though. Now this might end up hanging from my mirror!



Here's a shot of the ball turner tool I made. I'm using it here to put the "graceful" curve in the bottle neck.

There is a place that sells metals & industrial supplies nearby at good prices. For small pieces & odd stuff I sometimes buy from ebay.

I already have one, and the piston moves on the rod. I have the keys to my '60 on it.

Just an update, milled out a slot for opening bottles and added the key ring. This project is done.
