Replace gas pedal on a 58 Chevy

Anyone ever do this? My old pedal just wore out. I found a new one at a car show - only $5! But for the life of me I cannot see how it attaches! There are two screws in the floor of the car. It would appear these screws "slide in" to the bottom of the pedal. Correct? But I cant seem to do this. Then the accelerator linkage just sits behind the top of the pedal. But Im not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure on the '58, but on '62-'64s, the pedal snaps onto two ball studs bolted to the floor. The pedal then rests on the throttle lever, like you mentioned.

I wouldn’t spray the accelerator holes so it assembled better then you have the dreaded balls pulling out syndrome

Trying heating up some water not boiling but HOT then put the end of the accelerator pad into the water for a minute or two to make it more pliable, use the dish soap on the ball studs and it should slip right on.
