I met Allen at a Nostalgia Race in Maryland in 2012. We talked for hours. I had bought a 1962 Blue SS 409 new in 1962. I raced it locally in 1962-64. I talked with Allen later and went to Great Bend. We were six months apart in age and enjoyed the same things. I went to the races with Allen when I could and "crewed" for him. Allen and I went to Indy the past three years with his Copo's. In 2016, Allen's Copo qualified 6th out of 220 cars. Allen was a great personal friend and businessman. He was very proud of the telephone company (family business) and his family heritage. I loved him like a brother and he will be greatly missed.

This was posted on Allen's facebook page. Fills in some of the details. Carl and I were aware of his medical issues, and his desire to keep it to himself.

"This morning I was told that Allen had been taken to the hospital late Tuesday and died at 3 am today (6/13/2018). The doctors tried everything but his heart just quit, complicated with the cancer ravishing his body.
Allen lived and died his way. He knew his time was short when he told me a couple of weeks ago that his heart was just old and there was nothing they could do. A year ago last April when the cancer diagnosis was not certain and the suggested operation too severe he refused to go any further. Along with working at the telephone company, Allen was still putting in soybeans on the farm and drag raced his beloved Screamer II this past weekend.
Allen and I were best friends. He always took care of me, and one of the few friends (other than classmates) that knew me for 44 years. We were too independent to live together but did enjoy time spent together for many years. I shall miss him.
His former wife and best friend,
Judith Vale (George)"

Like many of you I am stunned and saddened by this news. We will always remember Allen and his 409-powered "Blue Screamer".

Years ago I was heading back from either Thompson or Norwark in the '62SS and stopped off in Indianapolis to stop in on a National Impala Association gathering I heard they were holding in a hotel parking lot. I ended up staying the day and Allen offered my a spot in his room that night, as I had not made arrangements ahead of time. We had a great conversation and I'll always remember him from our several meetings subsequent to that event.

RIP Allen George

Safe travels to all that can make it today, wish I could have. Spent the most time that I ever had with Allen last year at Beaver Springs as he showed me all the modifications and had me take pictures under his car of how he did it. Thanks for taking the time to show some young guy your secrets Rest easy my friend and know you went out on top.

A fitting goodby to Allen even if it wasn't a 409. They have his Wally right next to him in the funeral home.

I got word of this Wed. when we reached Bowling Green. I was very shocked and sad to here this news of Allen. I new he would be missed at the B.G. race but he liked going fast like I do and if I had a COPO I would have done the same thing. Allen was a great racer!! Condolences to family members. Rest In Peace Allen George Jr. The Taylor Family

I know that Allen was very happy with winning the Wally Award but not being a drag racer and at the risk of sounding stupid, can someone explain just what is a Wally Award

The Wally is the trophy given at the NHRA events.
It is called a Wally because the figure was modeled after Wally Parks the founder of the NHRA.
......as LA said the trophy is named after Wally Parks but according to Wikipedia not modeled after him, I always thought the figure was Sneaky Pete Robinson........here's the scoop....:read

"Contrary to popular belief, the Wally trophy does not feature Parks himself, but is rather modeled after Top Gas racer Jack Jones.[1] According to the June 30, 1995 edition of National Dragster, in early 1969 Jack Jones was at his day job, and got a call from Wally Parks. Parks asked him if he would be willing to pose for pictures for a trophy at Pomona Raceway. Pomona is a 16 minute ride from Glendora where the NHRA is based. Jack agreed and a number of pictures were snapped, including the now iconic photo of him with his safety equipment and a tire. Later that year, the famous Wally trophy was introduced. It is the same design as in 1969."
