409 compression test adapter

[Red 409 63 impala]

I am trying to do a compression test on my 63 409. My tester I have had for a long time and used on a lot of small blocks will not attach and screw into the head. Looks like I need an adapter to allow my tester to screw into the threads in the clylinder head. Has anyone used a adapter that worked well and what is the part number.

Go to an old parts house and get an "anti-fouler" adapter that has a long nose.Install it into the head,screw your gauge into it,problem solved.

Noooo, when installed it functioned much like the deer whistle but drove chickens crazy. Sales were through the roof in Iowa.

Oddly enough you can use one on an O2 sensor to get it away from the airstream to help pass an emmision test

Being a cheapskate, I just pulled the rubber boots down to make the spark jump.

Bought the anti fouler (14 mm) at advance..WORKED GREAT..Had to cut the nut at the end off, because the thread was too low for the compression hose fitting threads did not go down far enough. It came in one of those help packs.

They make fittings for compression testers in 14 and 18 mm.

I know this is an older thread but useful. I found a double pack of the Doorman's 42004 at Walmarts yesterday for $5.56 (was discounted).

I took a used 409 spark plug and knocked the porcelain out of it. Then I brazed a fitting to it that fit my compression tester.
