This is the mess I made. Now to fix it. Going to get the crank checked. Rods are already 20.

Looks kinda like oil break down, maybe from too much fuel in the oil from all the running issues due to the bad wiring? It gave you a "Running Duck Fit" for quite a while there.

I vaguely remember some of it.I don't remember if it has a roller cam or not,but if it is a flat tappet,a through inspection of the cam and lifters is in order as is a through cleaning of the block with the cam bearings removed.

Oh the history the pain of it all:bawl:sweat
Don, the gas would not surprise me but I don remember the much of a smell when I dump the oil.:dunno I still have the oil i could check.:crazy
Yes Don it is fully apart for cleaning and inspection and full rebuild.:rain I have looked at the cam 3 year ago and did not like what I saw.
I'll look again. I think it looked like 100k miles :doh

I'll see if I can give a short run down.
409 truck 38 over. Ross piston lightened(550 grams?:scratch) 427 crank eagle rods 6.385. balanced 9.5 CR (story there :grumble)
comp cam solid flat 280/284 250/254 .601/.618. (another story :irk) comp springs tubes lunati rollers
Eddi heads I ported and flowed. 304/234 at 600
eddi intake
That the most of it minus how I got here. I just hope it goes better this time.
The old links are still here. just look up old post of SSPEV. :winner

As of now the plan is to have the block squared, cut the pistons down to deck height and cut for valve relief.
Crank turned (if it can) it is std/20 . Looks like it will have to be 10/50:yikes might go 10/40 but I doubt it. I would hate to throw it in the scrap.

Show Cars lists them, but only for the "stock rebuild",not for the more performance oriented builds that I'm aware of.

Rod bearings should be readily available and cheap, as they are BBC. Mains are expensive and no much selection. H seiers mains are less than $200 but only STD or +-. 001.
Look at total cost. As long as the mains clean up, you shpuld be OK.
Had the oil pressure benn dropping?

Is that an undercut radius on the rod journals? One side looks like it and the other side looks like a short (.062-ish?) traditional radius...hard to tell exactly. Current BBC rod bearings vary quite a bit in width depending on mfg...make sure they are narrow enough to not 'grab' the crank radius. Stick cars can be edgy if the side of the bearing is a bit too close to the crank radius. The crank will move the amount of the thrust bearing clearance when the clutch is depressed and the side of the rod bearing can bite the crank radius.

Check the ring grooves if it whacked the head. With a heavy piston, the second and oil grooves can get tweaked.

Best of luck with the refurb, sir. :)

Maybe I'm wrong but aren't eddy heads only good for 550 lift? These cam numbers are higher than I would expect. What has to be done to make more lift work with them?
