Hi Schack , welcome !

My 348 from C/12/58 with casting 3751872 have the the pads , but no holes .

Now it have holes and BWR heads on it

Very interesting Kurt! Evidently the cooling holes were revised during 1872 production as your block has the bosses for the cooling holes and a 1872 block currently on ebay does not.

Schack,If the build sheet can't be found, here's a ''rule of thumb''to go by;If the pistons have no valve relief,they're 9.5-1,if they have a slight valve relief under the intake,they're 10,.5-1.The cam we're talking about will work with the 10.5's but you'll need to notch the 9.5';s slightly.

I believe the pads were added sometime in February of 58. Cecil will know for sure.
Right you are Scott.
Sometime after about mid Feb 58 the 872 block was modified to include the spark plug cooling waterjacket but the pads weren't drilled unless it was an FB (315hp) beginning on 5-21-58 or a truck engine after 3-27-58.

When the cooling pads were added was that about the time the block was modified for a non rope rear main seal ?
