Gang, trying to decipher the best means of erecting a bulletproof throttle linkage for my ‘61 Impala. The car was an original 235, but now has a 283. The throttle pedal rod, carburetor rod, and firewall support assembly plate looks to will remain the same, but the original 235 control lever will need to be different.

Does anyone have any good pics of their linkage setup?

Above is the correct original 283 linkage. Note the shape of lever number 8. I suppose I will be needing both items 2 and 8 (circled)

Above is my original linkage from the 235. Note the lever shape.

This is what I’m working with. Straightforward, but would like to see examples of the linkages you are running. I know there are aftermarket cable linkages out there, but I like the looks of the original lever setup.

Thanks for tips or pointers!

I have that rod in my garage I'll mail off to you if you want it. It has about 3/4" as i added that length to adapt it from a 2bbl to 4bbl then didn't use it anyway. The bushing can be got from Ace hardware. PM me address if you want it

I’ve seen Phil close up and personal. He’s a scary animal, for sure!! Wish I would’ve got into this Impala/Biscayne/Belair collecting a bit sooner because Phil lives right up the road from me, here in the Kansas City area.

No check that. Phil would’ve gotten all of my money because I would have been at his shop daily.

You know I love ya, Phil! You’ve been a big help to me!!

You can modify the existing #8 ,cut angle reweld to what is needed. #2 you can make easily. All thread 1/4 inch with two rod ends with pivots bolts on them or choose your own bolt 's chrome or stainless and cover all thread with brake tubing you can polish. Two jam nuts next to rod ends . I have that setup on two vehicles.
