Lots of BCM problems on these cars. You can loose windows, locks, radio, abs, even starting. Or a combo of all of these. Lock cylinders are pretty common problems too. Have you read the dtc's? If so, I can help narrow down your choices! Do you have alot of extra junk on your key chain? Let me know. Brian

Hey Brian
Have not read any dtc's yet as I am told my scanner
will not read codes from the BCM.....have to go to a
dealer.

My key chain has car key, house key and keyless
entry fob......wife's chain has all of the above with an
additional metal charm.

Someone elsewhere on line said to get the
Expresskit PLJX
GM Passlock 1 & 2 & VATS self learning
digital bypass and this should cure the problem
but a friend (ex GM mechanic now retired) doubted
this would help.
I was able to copy the install instructions for this
unit but it seems very complicated, lotsa splicing
under the dash required.

Have not been stranded yet as we have had the car a year
and the warning is intermittant.

Any help greatly appreciated

I would perform the manual relearn with the key 3 times. This will reset the voltage value in the security system. If you need the info, let me know. Brian.

Hey Brian

Can the relearn process be done anytime or just
when the security symbol shows up?

Here's a procedure I found online.

Is this correct?

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
2. Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 10 minutes the light will turn OFF.
3. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
Turn key to START, sometime your car will start after only one relearn.
If so, you're done.
If not, repeat steps 1 to 3 two more times (for a total of 3 relearns).
At that point, the vehicle will be ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to START.

Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

thanx

Yes, just make sure to do it 3 times, not just the 1 time. Should be good after that. It is better to do it the 3 times. Why? I don't know, but that is what we were told.:dunno

Here's a twist.
Took it in to the dealer this morning and they
found a U1064
Lost comm from IPC to BCM..........
no other set codes.
Suspect fault in the IPC.

Recommend waiting until security code comes up
again and then check. So we are good to go for now...:pray

One good thing, it only cost me $28 to have this checked out.

Should I still try the re-learn procedure if the security symbol
shows up? Any harm in doing this?

Go ahead and do the re-learn 3 times. The loss of communications usually means a power or ground loss, which I would suspect would be the B.C.M and not the I.P.C. The re-learn is free so do that first. Also, the wires on the back of the ignition switch, sometimes loose their press fit on the pins and give problems. Good luck and keep me informed.
