I do the same, for relatively little time I figure it has to help the water flow, not sure how much it helps the oil flow but it mus t do something.

Mounted the 409 crank today, with Clevite bearings, next is to file the ringgaps

I have a 348 which I wanted to use a 409 crank on a build very similar to the build discussed in this string. When I look at SC, it indicated the 7815p30 pistons are for a 4" stroke. However, a 409 crank is only 3.5". Is it the longer 6.385 length rods that make up the difference between the 3.5" to 4" crank to keep the proper compression and placement of the piston in the bore?? just curious and trying to learn.

Yes,that's the idea.Replacement rods cost about the same reguardless of length.The K-B'S are less expensive than Ross and others,and are lighter,win-win.

Mouted a 1962 327 besides my 409 today, next is to file the rings and put the pistons in this 348/380 build

Filed the rings today and mounted nr 1 piston.

Pistons are in, very nice and easy to mount them without the ringcompressor. This is a 030 bore without cutting the counterbore, its a 030 edge left buts that was not a problem.

Smart move,Jan.Putting that counter bore back in will cost you 1/2 a point of compression.

Ill did that on my first 3 blocks, never thought it was so easy to mount the pistons without doing that even with a 030 bore and a 030 edge left. Ill probably not doing counterbores again.

I have the the pistons 0,015 in the hole, im thinking Cometic 0,027 gaskets, talked to them and they said 3 weeks deliverytime.

Good luck with the Cometic gaskets cruzin ,I waited almost a year, just got them a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they make them in groups when they have enough orders. Greg
