4.56 Gears for an 8.2 (drop out center section)

I have a 4.88
Gotta love the 513's as I have a set in one of my 63's and that bad boy is screaming doing 40 mph so I might have to change out again
Do you have a 4 series posi ?
To be clear is anyone racing with the factory 17 spline axles and 4.56 or 4.88's. More show than go due to the likely hood you would snap an axle if you hooked up right?

In 1970 I installed a 4.11 chunk in my '62 327/250 Impala and can attest to failures of many components soon thereafter. Axle shafts, spider gears, drive shaft and ds carrier bearing unit were among the casualties. When I came to my senses finally, a 3.08 went in. Top end was killer!
I never broke anything with my 409/340 4 speed and 4:11s....amazing, but I believe the tires saved me. And no track time.

it’s for the Hayden Proffitt tribute... not for drag racing or competition use. If I was going to race it I would put a Pontiac 9.3 under it. Hayden had the factory axles and limited traction so that’s probably why it survived at the time. Most Z11 match race cars had the 9.3 Pontiac in lieu of the factory 8.2. I know these rear ends are made of glass once you add slicks and power.
I was guessing that is what you were looking for.
I asked above if you had a 4 series carrier. I have an NOS 4:56 set but you would need a spacer for a 3 series carrier. I may be willing to part with it for a Hayden tribute !
I have a spacer if you need it.

In the 70s I ran a thick 4.56 and "cheater slicks" 12.20s @ 108 lots of 5000 side steps and never broke an axle. I did have an aluminum flywheel that softened the hit and let it rpm better. Drove it all over on the street also. It DID rip all the ring gear bolts out of a 4.11 pumpkin with a spacer plate on the street when I hit it in front of a friend's house!
