40 year Garage find 58 Impala 348 fume smell

Hello. when the engine is at operating temperature my 348 has a bad fume smell. Doesn't use oil. No oil leaks from the valve covers onto the exhaust. New exhaust that doesn't leak. It does leak from the oil pan but isn't getting on the exhaust. MY QUESTION is could the fumes be coming from the crankcase ventilation tube? OR does anyone out there know what might be causing the fume smell?

THANKS
Doug

Take off the oil filler/breather cap and see if there is any blow by, fumes/vapour puffing out, if so the engine has a bit of age, my 64 fumes a little bit, still runs good but soon I will be doing an engine swap for a fresher 409.
If there are no fumes or puffs coming from the breather cap, it could be crappy fuel and the smell could be the exhaust fumes.
