I understand the two part rear main seal, but what are the two extra little rubber pieces in my rear main seal kit for ???

They go under the rear main cap

The rear main cap has pilot holes for the seals to fit into.

I think the exception might be those earlier 1957-58 block castings that used a "rope seal".

Someone else can confirm.
