58 HEI conversion ballast wires questions

I admit that I am far from an electrical guru and struggle a bit to read and understand wiring schematics. I am putting a HEI into a 58 Belair with a SBC. My plan was to wire the HEI directly to the IGN terminal on the key switch as well as splicing a new feed from the R terminal of the starter. This should get me power in both start and run positions. I am just not sure what to do with the ballast wires. I do have electric wipers so I am thinking I need to tie the brown wiper feed wire to the tan wires that went to the ballast, I believe the tan wires also supply power to the fuel and temp gauges as well as the GEN light. Any help would be appreciated. $100 for the "conversion harness" seems a bit steep for a couple pieces of wire added & subtracted and isn't in the budget at this time.

Tie the two ballast wires together,leave every thing else stock.All that you need to do to get full battery voltage is by-pass that ballast resister.
