I dont think the guy who has my block knows how to sleeve it.

Why would you say that.....???? ........ and if you feel that way why does he still have it.....?????
Took mine to a shop....... Jack spoke to machinist by phone to tell him how to measure for deck height...... still didn’t get it..... Jack said “don’t walk..... run to get your block back.....!!!!!!

He's confident he can do it but said he's never done a W block before. Not what he told me when I dropped it off.
DC Automotive and machine in Rockford says he is good enough to do it. I think they all lie just to get the business.
Idk any more.

Maybe it’s time to get it back and send it to a well known builder like Carl mcquillen or Jack Gibbs. After my machine shop that I trusted closed that is the decision I made for my project being they have a great reputation with these motors and neither one of them will let anything go that is questionable. The piece of mind coming from having either one of those two do the work is priceless.

You've had a tough time Steve. It's your $$$. I hope things work out for you. Back when I had my engine built I took the assembled block and heads to a shop a couple of hours away. In the meantime, I found this site. After the shop magged the block and heads I wasn't really comfortable with their answers on the build. I told them I was going a different direction with my build, picked everything up, and shipped to Jack. End of story. If I've got a tooth ache I don't go to a foot doctor, I go to a specialist. Good luck.

Dave is absolutely right. You have had a tougher time than most, but the good news is that these guys won't recommend anyone that is marginal. These things are scarce enough that it is better to find an experienced guy, a "specialist" than to waste a lot of time and money. I am really lucky that my guy is 2 blocks away and has been doing this for 50+ years. He has seen and done it all. When he retires, if ever, it will be a great loss. I know it might be inconvenient, but find the right guy this time.

Steve...are you close to Rockford???? If do...go see Larry Carpenter. He has built several 409s and could tell you who to go see. I've known Larry for many years.
Hope this works out.

Never herd of him. DC Automotive and machine Dave Carter in Rockford says he hasn't machined one in years. He didn't sound to sure oh himself lol. He has my 496 for my next project now.

I have two sets of 348 pistons and rods. Are they worth keeping or scrap em? We are moving again on July 12th. Finally back to owning a home again. To much junk here and I don't want to drag it all with me again.
I have a 62 Biscayne rear glass too.
