I don't mean to degrage your cam choice after all it's your car and should be done to your standsrds.The informatin that .492 lift is the largest that you could put in due to the pistons is flatly wrong.I don't know where it came from as lift it's self has nothing to do with bent valves.The period of time in the engines cycle that's called overlap is where the problem comes from.From what you posted about the engines lousy power out put and the time expense and expertice that's going into this engine suggests that you want at least the rated out put of 340 to be reachhed.That Isky cam won 't get it done as it's only about 5 degrees bigger on the intake side and 4 degrees smaller on the exhaust side than the stock cam.Unless the exhaust side of the head is porte enough to bring the flow balance to 80 percent or better of the intake[stock is about 65]a single pattern cam is a bad idea especially with manifolds.Chev.didn't do it and niether should you.In a bubble top for 62 the 409 had just a little lope and a fairly strong mid range.What you've chosen will idle dead smooth get fair mileage but very little power,certainly not 340 from what I've seen about this build.

That'll work but for your driving pleasure,ie a really sweet cruiser I'd suggest something in the 215-218 at .050 range. The same lift range right around .500 will run nicely.Howads aCams lists a little hyd.flat tappet that's 215 in.- 225ex.at .050 with a 112 lobe seperation,a bit more lift in the .530-.540 range that would run great on those nice manifolds that you're planning on using.

Can anyone please tell me how to run the PCV hose from the filler neck back to carb.
in front or behind?

Also the water thermostat housing isn’t stock. Can you please show me the proper one ?



shop is thinking it may have been taken.

Just saw this thread. The thermostat housing you was wanting is a #3837223. Points straight forward just like the one pictured did. Can be found on ebay. In the pics above of the engine on the dyno, there is some kind of tab under the center outside bolt on the right hand valve cover. What is that for? How did you make out on the dyno?

While the sport coupe was home after metal was done. I began looking at placing the rare and expensive quarter moldings and door pieces. Turns out I had no clue where to line these up at all. I have a frequent visitor who pops in whenever the garage is open. He is 85 now and has been a regular part of the build for 3-4 years now. He is a 62 guy since 62 and one day he brought over a Belair fender. Within a few hours I had drilled and mounted a nice fender molding on my sport coupe and decided right then I needed to access a 2door 1962 Belair before I could move ahead with car.

one hour later I find on Craigslist a 2dr sedan. It had been posted 6 hours prior. He was 4 blocks away.

The car had been in the area for 20 years. As I put eyes on the car and saw flawless moldings I immediately gave him his asking and he didn’t look happy. I later admitted I had paid more for those moldings that I now had 3 sets of than his whole car. It came with floors that we immediately put in.

I actually am using the molding off this car. There is a guy Brent from California who goes by Mr. Impala. I bought 6 piece full chrome set of outer moldings off him. They were completely mangled off the car.. you can see where they bent and popped the trim off each clip, made some effort to reshape the molding and then chromed them. These pieces were so bad (all of them) that I called him to take them all back. He refused and told me to sell them. I couldn’t in good conscious do that to someone so I got very screwed. I paid more for those unusable chrome moldings than my sedan with all of the moldings.

Anyway another guardian angel was looking out. I got my coordinates for the drilling and the molding have landed beautifull.

ps I decided to look up the VIN for the car. Well this broke the sellers heart. 2 weeks and 70$ later I find out the car is 1/425 made of all models. Imagine how many were V8

WOW. 6 hours after posting and 4 blocks away. Nice find :good I've been burned in similar fashion as you were on the moldings. I know the feeling. Guys who deal like that will pay for it one day. Any plans for the post car?

Found an old hot rod builder who works for 30bucks/hr. Hell get the car and some metal. After that maybe an LS. Daily it to work. But first the sport coupe

Yes.

I politely let him know that clearly they bent the hell out of the door and quarter pieces. Easily not one clip was properly removed from the inside. So the entire length of every piece had bent inside ridges that had grip marks all the way along where they bent them back. So those right there wouldn’t allow the trim to sit flat.
Then on top of that, they reverse bent every piece to access these clips as they popped them off. So the pieces are all bent backwards in odd spots. They tried to address these many issues poorly and then chromed them. Completely useless pieces. I wouldn’t even put them on my survivor Sedan.
Anyway he said it was my problem even though I proved payment. He told me to sell them on my own.
‘I was willing to trade maybe for bubbletop power windows or something.

I wasn’t about to beg a man who’d screw his customers over.

Thankfully I found that car and have some very very clean straight pieces.

Sorry to hear about the bad story, but at least you got this car. Do you have a cowl tag photo of this car for the database? The Canadian process of showing the actual model number for V8 or L6 means that the figure of 425 is the number of V8 Belair 2-door sedans (1611). The Number of 1511 Belair L6 cars was probably a lot higher.

I thought you were just interested in Sport Coupes. Anyhow here’s the 1962 2dr Belair Sedan cowl tag. This Sedan does not have padded dash so not too sure what 6A means, but for sure this car is original and no holes for the padded dash.
Thanks for that tag photo. I've recorded 2,237 cowl tags from 1962 (all full-size models), and I also record any other 59-63 cowl tags. The BSO (Body Special Option) code 6A on Canadian cars means padded dash, so either someone made a mistake by coding it but not fitting one or this is not the original tag for the car (although it sure looks original). The VIN sequence number will be close to this tag's number (37496) to confirm it is original. If the VIN sequence number is not within 200-700 or so of this number then something is wrong.
