I am replacing the dash pad and there is a lot of excess material at the instrument panel. What is the corret strategy to deal with it?

Just cut slits and tuck it under? what to do about the many screw holes for the instrument panel?

Thanks everyone

I would try and duplicate what Chevy did when the car was assembled. Just trim the excess material just like the old one. When you took the dash cluster out, was there a metal insert in the middle of the center black plastic insert where the screws go? If it does, make sure it is still there when you reinstall the cluster. That is your ground for the cluster.

Thanks Jon - the original pad was not included when I got the car, so I don’t have a good reference. I do understand your point, and that is to treat it like a piece of upholster, right?

Thank you for the reminder on the ground point - that would be an easy one to miss And really inconvenient to troubleshoot if you didn’t know it was supposed to be there.

Hey Skip - thank you'

I have a reproduction pad for the dash. Unknown brand, but really nice.

if you had a picture of how the excess is cut and attached, that would be really great. I think that is exactly what I need.

Mine had no staples. There was a date code thermal into the vinyl

Here is what was on mine in the same location.
Interesting that it is a different style date code.
