65 am/fm

I'm installing an am/fm in an am 65 impala. Question... there is a red female plug on the drivers side rear of the am/fm...what is it for??? What goes there???

Russ,That red terminal usually means it's a power outlet.Did Chevrolet offer a power antenna that year?

Great minds think alike...I've been thinking the same. I just not very familiar with 65s. Was a power antenna an option in 65?

Just guessing but probably a rear speaker or reverb.
AIM should show it.

If your radio is a delco 986101, its for the aux reverb

No reverb and no power antenna in 65'. Only additional radio options are, Stereo or rear speaker.

This post got me thinking about the am/fm radio I have.What is the difference between a 63 and 64.I have this one.It says 63-64 on the back of it.It is in pretty rough shape,but I was thinking about having it restored.In the latest national impala newsletter Verne Franz stated that there were only 853 Impala’s that got this option.

Yours is a 64 Rick. 63s had the little triangle symbol that you would tune your radio for NORAD, the emergency channels.

Anybody know what the quarter-size metal 'pod' is that you can see in the pix from RussC above? it unplugs and has about 9 electrical pins in the configuration of an old miniature type vacuum tube.....i have one of these radios for a '65 i am trying to fix it ....of course the DS-501 output transistor ($$$) is KAPUTZ!

It's a filler plug. When you have multiplex you remove that plug and the multiplex plug, plugs into that outlet.
