David, the Mecum car was high bid at $27K and NO SALE! I can't blame the owner for that one. He probably wanted more than double that much in a reserve.

The thing that blows my mind is that a '65 W car just sold at Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale (Jan 2017) for NINETY-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!!!

Wow, that's alot of cash!

BTW was thumbing through the previous posts, :scratch
Where have I been for the past 11 years ??????

I would have thought that car would have been sold by now Tommy.I know that if I had the money,it would have! It's a great serviver car that wouldn't need much in the way of work like major body and upolstery work to bring back.I only noticed a couple things like the exhaust system, and those fender skirts from the pictures that you posted about this car what,a year ago?

Sorry, I answered the question regarding production of the L33 installed in 1965 Impala SS Convertibles but didn't answer the same question for L78's.
There were 140 L78's installed in the 1965 Impala SS Convertible model 16667.

65 Chevy.jpgIMG_1367.jpgIMG_1369.jpgI love 65 Chevy's!!!. Here's a couple of shots (appologies for the quality) of my old 65 4dr Impala back in 1990. It was a right hand drive 327 glide, my Dad and I soon stuck a 340hp 409 in it!!!. It was a great car, sold it to finance the 62 Bubbletop. Still have the engine. The headers were a bit rough but did the Job, still got them as well..................................

Home made headers?
Not quite models, I didn't make them, a friend had an exhaust shop and his apprentice made them. He did a good job for a young bloke!!:) The car had a 2.7-1 or 3.1 rear gear or something like that and would wind out to about 90+mph in low gear.....................:crazy. I remember a time when my mates and I rocked up to a surf spot up the coast and the locals looked at us funny because we had no boards to be seen........................................no probs, out came 3 surf boards out of the trunk!!:laugh4 Great memories with that car. The 409 hauled:beer
