I will have to except there were no emblems. But man it's frustrating. I wasn't looking at the engine. I was looking at the emblem when I remember it.

Chevrolet has done some wonky things. This would qualify.
jeff did the guy make it out of numbers and stick it there?
There was 302’s and 409’s. Wouldn’t be hard to switch the 3 for a 4

Tim I have a 1970 396 / 402 short block complete that has two bolt main caps with a forged steel crank. It is 10.25 compression and his 350 hp from the factory. I have never had a 396 or 402 block crack anywhere... I have a 65 396 that was also used in 66 for the 427 Corvette motor, both use same casting numbers and are available in two and four bolt mains. Your L78 and L89 engines typically were four bolt main with forged crack, 396 and 402 also had steel Forge crank but were usually two bolt main with cast cranks 427 and 454 were different stories. I have approximately six sets of different casting numbers of heads and about six different casting numbers for Big block chevys. The only blocks I ever see get broken are from rods breaking or motors freezing due to hard water inside. Good luck! Here is the motor in my beater nova right now. It is an LS6 short block 11.1 compression with aluminum 69 ZL1 rectangle port heads... and a four-speed of course:brow

The 1970 350 HP 396 that I have is actually a 402 and had 396 badges. A lot of the trucks that had the 402 in 70-72 had 400 badge on the fender.. was a LS-3 BBC. And the same casting was used in cars such as Monte Carlo’s Camaro and Chevelle’s. If you look in restoration Manuel‘s for cars you will not see a 402 fender badge available. However you can have just about any badge made but we’re not factory parts.

That was before meth labs and fertilizer

I think it was in the 60's when the big fertilizer manufactures went over to India to help them with their yields. Quite a bit of their water and wells became polluted also. As for the Meth labs, well, just try and enjoy it. They usually charge for that garbage :D

Alright, guys, let's be done with it. Bore the 402(4.125") .040" over, making it a 4.165" bore, X 3.760" stroke, X 8 cylinders, it comes out to 409.82".A 400 small block .040" over would be 408.93. That's because of the .010" stroke difference.

Update, I waited and waited. 3 weeks for this guy to get back. He got back on the weekend and sold it to his buddy.
sooooo.... I went and bought a 454 from a friend of one of our mechanics at work. 10069286. Mark IV block, hasn’t been touched complete together with heads no accessories and came out of a boat. Coolant cooled. I haven’t seen the head castings yet but everything else looks good

Ok this is what I ended up with. 454 with heads and intake. From what I can gather up it’s a 4 bolt main block, truck heads, seems to be solid lifter but I’ll know that and the crank once I tear it down. Was a marine engine originally. Heads decode as oval port open chamber 2.06/1.72 truck heads
