Had a 700R ?? given to me the other day. Came out of a 89 Chevy van with a V6. It has a short tail shaft with electronic speedo and one other multi pin plug with about eight wires coming out of it presumably for the computor hookup. How do I tell if it is a 700R and can this be used with a SBC or a 348? How do you convert from the electronic hookup for controlling shift points? Any info would be helpful. Thanks guys. Walt

I believe the V6 700R`s are different then the V8 ones and will not last behind a V8,,,,

700r4

89 will have a 4 wire pin. V6 version is not good for V8s, less clutch packs. 91-93 got all the super duty parts and should be a starting point for you. Late in 92 GM started using the E vesion of the trans with more wires and such. Needs a stand alone computer to operate. I have been buying 91 and 92 700r4/4L60 when I see them cheap.
