This is a little off topic but we have such a great source of info here I thought I'd ask. A friend bought a very nice, original 79 Chevy pickup and he wants to install a factory AM-FM radio in place of the original AM. The question is, did the dash boards change any during the 73-87 era that a radio from a certain range of years wouldn't fit? Or will one from an 85 fit just the same as one from a 75? Any differences on the plug ins? Any help on this would be great!

The plugs from an 85 should be the same as the 79. As long as you stay with a shaft type radio, you should be ok with the fit.
This is what the radio side, not the wire harness side, of the plug should look like.

The truck radios are interchangable thru the 1987 model year !
Car radios are also the same in the gm big car body's . I had a cadillac ETR [ digital tuning ]:brow in my79 pick up years ago.
