On a more serious note, safety wire would be my recommendation.

Phil, I've been racking my brain on a better cam gear bolt set up, just haven't been able to come up with anything but what's already been mentioned. Lock plate, or drilled / safety wired bolts.

Bolts get left loose due to poorly timed phone calls, lunch, or time to leave.
Maybe poorly machined parts.
Blame goes to the assembler.

You are so true!!!!!! I used to do all my assembly in the evening to avoid any visitors or phone calls.

I never finger tighten bolts. They are left out a few turns so they are obviously loose. I got forgot to tighten some bolts the next day after finger tightening them just before quitting time. The cam sprocket bolts on a Honda CB 360 motorcycle back in 1974 .

LOL. At American, when you returned to a job they always told you to go back at least 3 steps and then continue so you wouldn't miss things like finger tightened bolts, etc.

Since Prep-n-etch was mentioned in this thread thought I'd post here that it's now called "Concrete and metal prep" and made by Kleenstrip at Home Depot. Oh yeah, and they conveniently raised the price by $2.00 too.
