Calling all wagons! Tailgate pin broke, send help!

What do you recommend to replace a bad tailgate pin on a 1964 Belair wagon? Ebay has a pair for $25 shipped. I was thinking of just making something myself. Any reason I shouldn't make my own? Has anyone else run up against this?

Maybe get a few measurements with a caliper and see what NAPA or such has on hand. Shouldnt be to difficult. Pins are going to fit bushing and bushing fits body part and body part is probably oblonged.....
