Carb Kit help

who makes a good quality Rochester carb kit. This is for a 1974 454 GMC truck 7044212 DJ

I've always had good luck with Standard brand kits Kevin.I've also made it a practice to replace the float whenever I overhaul a Quadrajet.

that was my next question Don, who has the best floats? OEM still around or hard to find?

Yes ALWAYS replace the float (they absorb fuel additives & sink) on a Q-Jet, also need to put the rubber biscuit in the recess on the base plate in way of the bottom of the metering wells where the welch plugs are. I use to weigh them (floats) on my powder scale and was amazed at how heavy they would become.

I usually epoxy those things.Something like 3M Structural Adhesive works very well.

Q-Jets had three major issues, inlet fitting threads stripping out, junk float, and leaking welch plugs.

Those early brown floats would absorb gas, get heavy, run rich, flood. It was a big improvement when they came out with the black ones.

Yep,that's Cliff Ruggels ,Quadjet expert extrodinere,esp.with Pontiac's.
