Helped Tooth with the "shop truck" engine today. Built allot of engines in years past, all the big 3 + others. Even a couple strange stray dogs out of boxes. But this was my 1st W build. Hope to be the beginning of a new chapter in life. Used the adjustable tapered ring compressor from Total Seal.
They make a small version for the 348 4.125-4.225" & a large version for the 409 4.310-4.410" I will have to talk to them about a LARGER model!
Might seem a little pricey, $200ish, but it is the cats ass! Pistons fell into the holes.

Thanks Jeff, without your knowledge and tools this probably wouldn’t be happening. I really appreciate your ability to research and then execute! I have build a lot of motors in my life too and I assembled the beater nova after the machine work was done. This is my first W motor too. It’s nice to see that you started on your block for your 63 conversion. I am really looking forward to the build for the 63 race car of mine. I think this little stroker motor is going to be a hoot. Thank you so very much for your interest!!!

Worked on the shop truck 409 today, thanks Jeff for putting up with me. :D Probably finish it up next Saturday. I think it will be a great motor. Ralph said I need to put it in a car and leave the shop truck like it is.. :facepalm:dunno we will see....20220507_101837.jpg20220507_101959.jpg20220507_125800.jpg20220507_135748.jpg20220507_145932.jpg20220507_145944.jpg20220507_153810.jpg20220507_153900.jpg

Does Sanderson make headers for a "W" motor in a 68 Nova??? I'll call them tomorrow....:D I been thinking this would be perfect behind the Nova drivetrain, would be a fun driver and it already has 3 pedals. The BBC could be stroked to a 496 later. That would just require exhaust, everything else is already been improved. I could even run with the guys on the forum...:think:rub It would actually be a perfect candidate for a street driver.
JUST A THOUGHT...... Don?

Hey Tooth, you ever think about moving this thread to the truck section?? Just askin'.

Lots of good stuff here. My truck is in slo-mo right now but I'm going to work on the body guy next week...

Of course it would work in the Nova.Just get out your welding gloves. You're gonna have to modify an existing set of headers[I'd go with a 1 3/4 tubed small block] with a set of W flanges.Since the GMC is eariler than 73 you could run it anyway.

I built these headers out of a Hooker build kit, I also have a set of STAHL flanges that I got from Dennis Jackson for a W motor. I was thinking about adapting the flanges to the small block headers on the shop truck. But now thinking about adapting to the Nova. Cutting the small block Chevy flanges off a new set of headers and welding on the Stahl flanges should not be a problem.:rub20220508_105536.jpg20220508_105501.jpg

Finished the 348 stroker motor today! Jeff CNCed me a timing pointer. This has a 3.76 stroke crank with a stock size crank snout. I used a timing cover from show cars and doesn't have one on it. Thanks Jeff. He's going to anodize it. Now I will load up take home prime pump and install all parts to run it on the run stand to dial it in!!! Thanks Jeff aka Murphdog :brow20220514_154241.jpg20220514_154210.jpg20220514_154217.jpg20220514_154225.jpg20220514_085903.jpg20220514_094215.jpg20220514_154241.jpg106476-50bbde96066493007729f11888c98f4d.jpg
