Great pics

Thanks for the pictures!! The cars look fantastic. Nice job on the motor Ronnie - we would have liked to meet you at the line;) ;) Tony and I were thinking about all of you this weekend. Our son graduated from high school with honors on Saturday, (3rd in his class) :clap :cheers :clap which kept us from Clay City and we hope your Saturday weather was as great as ours was up here. Wish we could have been there in person but we were there in spirit. Looking forward to more pictures and stories from the group.

Ronnie,
If you don't mind, Tony will give you a call later this week.

Hope everyone gets home safe and ticketless....

Tony and Bonnie

We just got back from Clay City. It was a great trip!:beerbang There's all kinds of news... I guess I should wait and let Fred or some of the other guys fill you in on most of the news But I don't think anybody would mind if I let you know who won the Trophy and the five hundred bucks for winning the shootout. :dunno
Friday we had lots of rain and couldn't get on to the track but Saturday was great. This is a really nice race track and they had a lot going on. There was a car show, they had a group of old funny cars and some slingshot front engine dragsters and of course the 409 cars. We had nine cars running down the track and they all ran good,,, but no one was as fast as the the guys from Texas. Ronnie and Barry's car ran like a top. As you may know the car is set up to run at their local 1/8 mile track, so, it's gearing wasn't very good for the 1/4 mile. But no problem, Barry just went hard through the 1/8 mile then backed off a bit and finished the rest of the run, and he must have been pretty consistant because he made it through to the final round. They ended up with a by run for the win in the finals because the other car had driveline troubles. (that's another story) Anyway Barry let the Nova run the full 1/4 this time... The result...
9.99:deal :beerbang :beerbang :beerbang
Everyone was really happy to see these guys win. They're both great guys and they've got a great car too!
There's more stories and news but I thought you should at least get the big news. Here's some Nova pictures.

I'm not going to add any real news but I just wanted to say this was a great get together! Too bad we can't do this every weekend. We had a "real fine" group of guys and gals there. I know there was a few guys that wanted to be there but couldn't make it due to other comitments. We missed not having you there but at least we did get pictures you can look at.:deal
The track at Clay City is really nice and the folks that run it were very good to deal with. It's a beautiful part of the country and the track has a sixties feel to it. In fact Fred raced there in 63 when it was a brand new track and he said it hasn't changed a lot, but the trees are bigger now. The fans all liked the 409 cars and I think we spent about half of our time taking to them. Nice people them Kentuckians. Anyway, I guess it's a little early to start talking about next year already but if if you guys think it's a good idea to go back next year,,, Count me in!
By the way, I had some problems with my MSD (Misterious Sparking Device):scratch but with the expert help of DonD we had it fixed quickly. And aside from a few "driver error" runs the car ran pretty consistantly in the 11.2 to 11.3 range. I still got bumped off in the first round of eliminations though.:D

Arrived home today . Quickly said a prayer to give thanks for a safe trip home. Spent last night at a Casino in Shreveport. For the first time ever, I asked for room 409 and recieved it. Thought for sure that meant I would win $409 on the floor. Nope. Escaped with enough to buy fuel and two Cokes and a stale bag of potato chips. Have wrestled with a way to express the great time I had. The following is the best I can do.......... I traveled to Clay City, Ky. to spend two days visiting with friends. As it turned out, I traveled to Clay City, Ky. and spent two days visiting with family. You guys and gals are the best. Thanks for the memories. Go ahead and count me in for next year. post script---- The only problem I had was that most of our members have a very strange accent. After a while, I was able to understand most of the conversations. :) :)

"Cousin" Ronnie. are you familiar with the old Murphy and Johnson Bubble top out of Dallas? He ran withus one year at Indy, late 80's. So glad you made the trip. I don't remember any of us having an accent!!! Bob

Bob, Yea, Clinton Murphy was from Garland and had quite a car. He and Barry lived in the same neighborhood and have known each other since the early days.. Cut a bubbletop up and made molds.Made his own fiberglass car. Johnson was the motor guy. He is still in this area and still does machine work . Barry bought out Clinton about 14 yrs ago. Got all his 09 stuff . The molds were sold about 6 months ago to a guy in Kentucky. Barry has had a lot on his mind lately and just plain overlooked calling the guy and inviting him to Clay City. . Clinton Murphy is still in this area, but not involved in racing anymore. The fiberglass car was sold at the same time ( 14 yrs ago ) Dont know what happened to it, but it brought quite a price.

Im gonna borrow this title and use it for racing days, this time only. I dont wanna cover up Bobs DVD thread because it is important that everyone has a chance to read it . Monday afternoon. Barry called carb. man, fed h im Clay City info. The only info. he wanted was 33o ft to 660ft. Carb man said " way too rich". Changed from .165s to .157s. Carb man said car would run quickest with .150s but to check consistancy with .157s first. Dont think we will change.. 1st time trial - 6.33 changed startline technique-2nd time trial 6.30, final time trial 6.29. 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, 4th round, all 6.29 on 6.29 dial. Car was shifted at 6,000 rpm ( as always) 6,000 at the finish line. Temp was 95 deg at beginning , dropped to 83 by the end of the night. Alt was between 2,000ft and 2,500 ft. No change in e.t.s By Golly, this alcohol racing might be the ticket. ( even with milky oil) 4th round loss due to sleepy driver. It was after mid-night and the driver is getting old. Im not gonna fire him yet, instead I will force feed caffine to him next Friday nite. :brow
