Asking and selling price are 2 different things, everyone today thinks something is worth a price because of what people ask, in the end its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Tell me what you sold it for not what you were asking for it.

Clyde Waldo had a set of those 586s, and he and I were gonna trade a set of 690s for those 586s, so I'd put their value at $1200.

Pat, what were the dates on those heads, do you have them handy? I thought they might have been January 61 castings?

So those "L-20-61" 586s might have been on a 350 horse 348 in that 1961 convertible? I didn't know 586s were on anything other than the first year 409 (623 block castings). I think 1147s were only on 348s?

December 1961 is well into 1962 production. Probably they are over the counter service/replacement heads

Nope, 586 castings were used on both 409 and 348 SHP engines. The difference was the valve springs and pushrods with different part numbers for each assembly.
The 1147 castings were also continued for the 305 hp hydraulic lifter engine and for service.

Whats the story with the casting number on the winters intake? Is that some kind of pre production or pilot deal?

I've had 523 castings that were 5/16 and 3/8 both. Course the 3/8 were for the 409 heads.
