Crankshaft problem

So I am new to this forum and putting together a 59 el Camino with a 348 and in going to put a aluminum power glide in and run into a problem my crankshaft has some sort of bushing in the end of it was wonder if someone could tell me what it is and can it be removed thanks in advance.

It's probably a pilot bearing used when running a manual transmission. Use a bearing puller or a slide hammer to remove it - it is not used with an automatic trans. It should not take much to remove the bearing - if using a slide hammer, don't go nuts. A few easy taps should get it moving.

It’s a steel tube with a plastic bushing inside that will spin inside the tube.in looking at another crank I have it looks like the steel tube is driven into the end of the crank.

Just fill the space behind the bearing and the hole with axle grease and use an old pilot shaft or alignment tool and it should shove it out.
