I replaced the lowers on mine about 3 years ago, they were riveted. The replacement had bolts. Show-cars sells the rivets for uppers and lowers.

I just did the rebuild of the front end on a 62, the upper were riveted not the lower.

The uppers were riveted because they were never replaced. I have installed many ball joints through the years and never replaced uppers

Use to use an air chisel to cut the rivet heads off, had to chase the chisel bit across the floor when it would slip off!

Ball joints wearing out was real common, Moog made adjustable ball joints back in the day so you could adjust them up tight as they wore. I put a set in my Corvette back in the seventies, there still in there and never had to adjust them yet. Lol

The lowers were the "load carrying"joints,so were much more common to wear out early.I did a 64 once,joints were rivited in from the factory,a royal PITA!

Snapped a picture of the lower. Unfortunately, the tag didn't survive the control arm removal. All this and the control arm is junk. but I'll save the sway bar link bracket.

Well I guess those tags were in the box with the replacement ball joints? Must not be original stuff. I guess they gave you the threaded steering bumper too? I bet they don't do that today.
