Well, back at it after one of those end of winter weeks your happys in the rear view... Cold here, snow, people getting sick, one of those..

One of the things coming off the first startup was to fix the throttle linkage and go to a cable system. I bought off Ebay a 73-87 gmc pedal that I'm holding in the pic for the idea. I think if I mount it where I'm holding it, the cable will come through the firewall near the coil wires, red and black.

If you look in the pics, the best place to mount the carb mounting plate is on the front throttle body, not the back. Because their both connected, I'm thinking it's a non issue?

When bracket is on the back throttle body, the turn to the cable is really sharp almost a 90..

Is that the right way to go?

Well, I think we might have a few things off the to-do list.

Installed the pedal and posted a video of the movement. Think its right but if anyone sees anything were muckin up please let me know. Also bled the clutch and fired it up. The belt still squeeled but think were close, she went in and out of hear and went back and forth in the driveway without issue, brakes even were good, buttttttt nooooo, couldnt end perfectly, the heater core went !

Lucky it was on the engine side only and shut her down. She was leaking at the blower motor.

Ill order a heater core and schedule the exhaust install, getting close....

Hey hey, we have an exhaust system! The guys did a great job and spent the last day or so re-wiring the cut-outs. Love hitting a button and uncorking.

Also got the heatercore replaced. Had to take the entire box off and glad I did, what a mess inside. The main thing i ran into was that the replacement core was NOT the same dimension as the OEM and needed to rig some zip ties to hold it tight. Aside from that all set.

Well, officially we've give up on trying to make a stock alt bracket work with this setup, UGGGGGGG. Ive spent hours trying to get this tiny pitch out and its over me. I thought I had it this weekend, fired it up and within a min she pulled back to this pitch. Looking at how the bracket is welded on the inside, it gives a natural pitch so talked to Bruce at Show-Cars and ordered this aftermarket one to be here wens!.. If it shows up, well install it and maiden voyage here we go!!

The list of fix items is getting much smaller and will be on the "neaten"

Two steps forward, one step back...

I was able to get the new alt bracket on, had to build it off the head with two washers e but, once she started and idled for 30 seconds she started to squeal. Talking to Don, we noticed the belt sat deeper in the groove so went about to replace it and noticed that the pullys, both the crank and the water pump were touching!! I did make sure (i thought) that that wasnt the case, i remember distinctly rotating the water pump before i put on the belt and after and didnt notice any drag, but sure enough you can see the center line is bright and shiny.

Today, ill go ahead and use a black marker to re-color the pully and pull the pump off and see if i cant mount it a touch higher. All we should need it a "scooooch", so once i do that I can put it all back together and see if the color rubs off.

Man o man, so close........

There is a retainer (spacer) that goes between the 2 water pump pulleys. It's called a reinforcement in the parts catalog. Do you have it? Without it your pulleys could run each other and cause your problem.

Hi Phil! I do have this type and they helped me get all the grooves lined up. Yesterday I had just enough time to drain down the coolant and loosen the pump, pull up and tighten. It seemed to give me a bit of movement so hopefully thats that.

I hit a few parts stores and although a few belts were close, ordered one to be here today and with any luck, we wont need anymore clearance and everything works......Just cant describe how much i want to drive this thing. We have a couple go-pros and y'all will be there with us, ha!

Those are not correct. The reinforcement is "cupped" to fit the pulleys exactly. See if Show Cars shows one in it's catalog.

Show cars lists a reinforcement , but it's for the water pump pulley Phil. When we talked yesterday,I told him to slot or enlarge the water pump holes slightly so he could move the water pump up slightly. If he can get from about .040 up for the clearance between the pulleys,he should be fine."Shade-Tree "engineering, yes, but some times that's what's needed when dealing with aftermarket parts.
