I understand that Don but without the reinforcement....the water pump pulleys will not run true. They will not be aligned correctly and could be enough out of proper alignment to touch crank pulley. Crank pulley is stationary and not out of alignment.

Hey hey, GREAT call Phil and lookie lookie what I found!!!! If I knew what I had earlier probably could have saved a TON of tinkering and saved Don some head scratching too!!! Don had a great idea yesterday of maybe stacking two pullys that I had but they just didnt seem to do the trick. l'll put this in today and report back!!!

Hey hey, PROGRESS AND.....

I installed the piece Phil hooked us up with, ON THE WRONG SIDE, ha. Don told me we did it wrong so tomorrow ill grab some longer bolts and make it happen...

Today I fixed a "weeping leak" on the return fuel fitting line with a touch of permitex, topped off the fluids and away we went! I took the first trip with jeanne, 5 miles or so, had my trusty fire extinguisher right on my side! I kept it around 2-3k on the first drive, taking things slow and pulled over a couple times to check things out. The drive went well and she has a "pop, pop, pop" during engine breaking that makes you know your in something strong..

We got home, let it cool, and went over everything and Avery and I went out. We made a few quick videos below and you can her it and see the output on the handheld. SOUNDS NUTZ!!

Couple things we need to still work on, the alt bracket. Take a look at the video at idle, WOW! Not sure what to do but its not going to beat us.... The other videos are short, the first, avery wasnt ready for me to hit it and things went flying, and the others were driving and listening for anything bad.

All in all things went great, valve covers need to be tightened, leaked, need to bleed the clutch some too...

Closer!

Just for fun, take the alternator off, then see how tight that lower bolt fits in that hole on it.
Lot of replacement alternator have the hole for the larger MM bolt.

Sounds nice except the popping when you let off. Maybe an exhaust leak causing the popping.

JIM!! You were right, their all a bit loose! Fixed that and now stating at the pullys..

There is play in the alt bottom bolt, and both the alt and ps pump pullys have the slightest, and I mean slight cocked look. Trying to figure out a solution..
Head scratching

I've fixed that 'wobble' with a bracket triangulated to the front intake bolt. Some BBC's used an intake bolt with a male 3/8 nc stud integral to it that works well. The high mounted alternator and the aluminum bracket are a recipe for shake. Could you mount the alternator on the pass. side of the engine and down lower?

Well, were TUNED, virtually, neat story!!

With EFI, strapped on your rig, your able to plug in your pc/laptop, and see everything happening to your engine in real-time. You can capture virtually any data about air, fuel, spark and ignition and on the fly make the finest adjustments. Ok, now the fun part.

I met this guy Rich yesterday (link below) who is a lot like us. Been there for 50yrs, designing, building, racing engines, and has a virtual mechanic service. You get on his calendar, plug in your laptop/pc to your vehicle (its a usb cable) and he connects through your laptop and opens up your vehicles ecu and makes it better... ha..

I called him at 9am, he had me go to a site called team viewer, download a piece of software. You then tell him what your code is and he can connect and remote control your pc.

From here, i connected the cable to my ECU and we began entering in all the global parameters like cam spec, fuel type, fuel pressure, throttle body style, etc. From here we added out tolerances, 34 all in, 15 6500 rpm limit, fan temp on, fan temp off etc... From here he crated a base fuel table, spark table. From here you can get super picky on how quickly you want throttle response, what happens within the millisecond for all of these ingreadiance and can in our case take out lean pop by adding fuel in off throttle scenarios!

Below is a view a pic and video of me at idle, hitting the throttle twice and what the engine did. Although a little small on the video, you can see all the telemetry and how it acts. Ill post more of these as i get it out on the road and you will be able to see real world data...

Anyway, thought it was a great great day knowing we can pull guess work off the table and just drill our best possible performance over time!!

Got a chance to tackle the alt bracket issue once and for all today (i hope, ha)..

Simple bracket from the back of the alt to the header bolt. ROCK solid and could probably use it as a jacking point if the trucks ever upside down :>).

Raining today so hope this weekend were able to start putting a few miles in..
