I would use epoxy primer. Self etching primer may work, but you have to watch what you spray over it. Some primers don't stick to the self etch very well.

Thanks Jim! I'll try that today and post some pics... Our goal, have all the panels done before the body shop finishes with the frame. Good guy that owns it named Mark, and if we can save him time it's a win win.

On this one were only painting the engine bay. Don was totally right, we were just gonna do the top side, but i would die opening the hood and seeing crap... Funny, were freaks about making things work right in the engine bay, but not so excited about paint and polish anywhere else....

Heres our pics for the red build and although the underside and frame on these are all painted, were gonna coat this one because of the miles we put on them.. The red one was PERFECT but now i have chips on the underside, and although nobody can see, it haunts me :>)

Hey hey, what's the best route??

So we sent this healey out and got it back with a long block rebuild and found a KEY in with some extra nutz, bolts etc...

From my manuals, I only see three keys to these, two for the nose of the crank (timing gear lock and balancer alignemt) and in the lil pump... I dont see any damage on the key other than a drifting mark where they must have pulled it, so not sure why they would have changed this out...

I took a pic of the key on the manual that shows both places..

The nose has a key in place..

Question, do I pull the pan to check, or, throw oil in and try to prime it?

WOW its a Good day to have a good day!!!

This dogs ass just got some serious sunlight!! Cannot believe our luck, we searched images on google for this part for a full week and just had a fella with a salvage shop on the phone and sold us this entire lot for $100!! Super happy about that and offered to hook him up with some of our old parts we wont use.. One hand shakes the other.. Now have a spare housing and a way to fix it!

Thanks LA for the solution!! One step closer....

And you paid someone good money to do that?

Yup, was super bummed to see the stuff in the pan..

Whats the stuff they used on the pistons, anyone? I've always used clevite and thats a totally different color. I did put a scope camera down each cyl to make sure the FRONT stamp was indeed on the front, :>)!

PRO TIP!! Used Don's trick with letting the mega black tack up over lunch, but once again broke thru my glove and panic'ed and used my hands! I do it every time, i panic when the ooze keeps coming and you cant stop it, hahahaha. I really think the tubes are one time use.. Ive never been able to take a tube of mega black or whatever and get the cap to actually close and reopen. You always have crap cured in the top, poke it with something, old drill bit, squeeze like a bastard only to have to give up and poke a hole in the side and walla, mess and get covered.. Then its a nice sanding of your hands with steel wool, unreal

Thats my story anyway.
