I was able to get a little window of time today and decided to finish the list on the drivers side.

With the header on it was time to check and see if I had clearance for the oil filter. It does clear but the actual oil filter (WIX 51515r) is too small, need 13/16ths. Ive attached the WIX chart, which one in the 13/16th's is the rignt one for us?

Also finished up the alt bracket and added a barrel spacer to connect to the head. All the belts line up and have good tension, check...

Isn't WIX A NO-NO????

On no, is that true? I thought WIX had a good reputation and use one on betsy. Which ones have you guys had the best luck with and whats the most important thing to look for? Heres a chart that shows some of the inner characteristics...

Racing filters don't offer as much protection for the engine in street use because they don't have as much filtering capacity. This is done in order to allow more oil faster to the engine as would be required for short duration, high rpm operation such as drag racing. The typical street engine needs the extra filter capacity, mostly due to the length of time the filter will stay on the engine,a well as the various conditions that a street engine sees during it's operating life.

Considering how difficult it is going to be to service that oil filter, I would be inclined to installing a remote oil filter that will be easier to access for oil changes.

Well explained Don.

A long time ago, a very smart engineer, fluent in filtering (Jeff Kane) schooled me on filters.
One of his comments was there is no free ride in filtering.

Let's take your Wix 51060 filter as an example. It size is identical to the 51060R and both are very good filters.
The 51060R race series is supposed to have a thicker housing to handle 90psi + pressures and has higher flow rate than a 51060 filter ,
but within the size constaints to achieve the extra flow it has to have larger particle pass through. The 51060 filter
flows plenty of oil for W engines and filters to a finer micron, it is going to do a better job overall for these applications.

There is no free ride, flow rates typically within a given space can only be changed by a change in filtering particle size.

This makes thinking about using a screen as a filter might not be a good idea, we never use any type metal type screen (Oberg, System One)
on our engines, because of the reasons stated above.

Thanks guys!! Couldnt do it without EVERYONES help!

Happy BIRTHDAY PHIL!!!!

Had just a few min today and prepped the things I needed too before the final header went on. Added the scatter shield back, wired up the starter and wrapped the wires and both fuel lines in heat resistant cloth. Wanted as much clearance as possible from the runners, dont need any fires or burnt wires!

I did have the header on and, hahahaha, it came down to the very last and hardest bolt which simply wouldn't go. It was the bolt that had the tightest runner next to it and had to cut down the bolt. Try as i might it simply wouldn't work so had to pull the header and dimple the runner a "skosh" and ready for the WIN tomorrow.

Should have the throttle stuff by then and might get a shot at that too. Well see..

Bit more progress today, added the new oil filter and glad to report have good clearance. Also wired the backup lights, re-installed the driveshaft and finally got the headers installed! Little pissed at myself for marring one header near the oil stick, will file/sand it out later.

I am a bit worried about the collector and how they run into the cross member for the tranny. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that the muffler shop can bend and get something to work that runs straight through. If that's the case, all I have to do is the throttle linkage and neaten things up a bit.

After connecting the headers and 02 sensor, it was time to see if she cranked. I checked the oil level, did fill the oil filter when I added it, left the plug wires off and coil wire off, pulled the fuel pump fuse and she turned over and no issues. It spun for about 10 seconds and everything sounded as it should, did it again but not long enough for the oil pressure to prime. I did replace the oil sending line so everything was dry...

Tomorrow Im hoping for a solution for the throttle...
