You are so correct with that!!! I can't even think of how many times a ditch got in my way on the back roads of the eastern shore!

We don`t have ditches on this coast,,,,, we have trees !!!!

We have some pine trees that are much smaller than your massive trees but usually the ditches here will get you most of the time.... sometimes you run into the marsh but where there is a tree they will hurt you
