Engine Numbers ?

Can anyone tell me what these engine numbers tell.

It's in my 63 Impala and is supposed to be the original 283.

I know there's not must to go on as shown in the picture

I can read the first 4 or 5, but that's about it.

The last Letter or Letters are the real important ones.

If that's a "D" on the end, it's a 283, Powerglide.

I do agree that the last letter does look like a "D" and the car does have the PG trans

What about the "T020" ??

The T is for the Tonawanda, NY plant. The 02 is the Month of February. I believe the next two are 09. If that is correct, it's the 9th day (February, 9th).

Not listed here is the Year. That will be on the back of the Block which can be hard to see with the Engine still in the car.

That is very helpful also as the intake manifold and heads are from early February 1st week. IIRC.... I'll have another look. It's looking like this may be matching numbers car. Attached is the Trim Tag
