Exhaust Cross Pipe

I have a 58 Impala with a stock 348/250HP. I noticed, whoever had the car before me they installed a new exhaust system but didn’t install the cross pipe between sides. Should the pipe be installed and what kind of difference in running would i see if I installed it? Thanks

H pipes and X crossovers do help performance but nor sure where you would put one on our X frames that would not hang down too low.

the crossover pipe takes a bit of resonance out of the exhaust note.
Hot Rod TV did a test with a few types of crossover pipes and found basically no variation in power.

You can replace it with the internal crossover if you remove the the heat riser and replace the gasket. Not too hot if you are doing all of this.

My 58 Belair 283 had factory duals, the header pipes had a built in crossover, never seen that since :dunno
