What James said about checking the timing curve.For what it's worth,my better Vortec headed 355's ran 34 total by 2500.That adjustable advance kit from Crane is a great choice.THE 262'S that I used were Comp Extreme units,but that Lunati should be just as good,maybe better by a little.Now as to that 268's vacuum,I see no problem what so ever there.Your headers should help,not hurt with either cam.

I've got an Edelbrock Thunder AVS. I've got it set up pretty good from what I can tell. Idling between 14-15 air fuel ratio and drops to 12 when I stand on it.

Great carb,but Vortec heads don't usually need that much fuel at WOT.Just something else to work with.

back to the headers for a second..so i should have no problem with my 4 speed stock set up (bell crank..etc) fitting

No sir,you shouldn't have any issues with Wilson headers on a W engine.

I've got the Hedman full length headers with a small block and a 4 speed manual with all of the original clutch linkage, bell crank, etc... no issues.
